"Disk offline with error – the disk is offline because of a policy set by an administrator"

After adding a new hard drive to an existing VM, it will show as offline, this can be corrected using the steps below in the diskpart cmd prompt

san policy=OnlineAll

This will result in the following message: Diskpart successfully changed the SAN policy for the current operating system.

list disk

Check the number of any offline disks and select them

select disk 1
attributes disk clear readonly
online disk

The disk will now be available in Disk Management.
The trainer William has a distinctive style and great dry sense of humour that kept everyone engaged.

3CX is a windows base IP phone system. In the simplest terms for a small office you install 3CX on a desktop PC, sign up to a VoIP provider (e.g. VoIP Unlimited or Spitfire) plug in a few IP phones to your Ethernet, configure, provision and away you go. As it’s all IP based you can get a phone number in any region of the UK or any country for that matter. So office based in Scotland, but clients all in London, or France - get a local number to your clients and you are only paying for ’local’ calls. 3CX can go all the way up to a multi-location offices / call centres with thousand of agents. If you want to get fancy there are APIs and custom programmable elements to build your own digital receptionist, the kind that ask for your account numbers, report information from your account after you authenticate etc etc.

You can also get an app on your iPhone/Android to be able to make calls over 3G data or wifi via your 3CX PBX. Although if you want total flexibility on remote mobile access you do face the difficult decision on how to deal with security threat of opening a port for SIP traffic on your firewall to the public internet which is not a great idea.

Download Video from the BBC iPlayer

There is no quick answer to this from Google for Windows, but in Ubuntu it’s dead easy
The solution after much head scratching, simply uninstall Windows Live Login Assistant. Why this application should block shares from xbmc is beyond me. I have no idea what I was thinking about when I recently installed the Windows Live software anyway, most of it easily replaced by better programs. The guys at xbmc.org made a nice post on their forum about win7 smb shares, the windows live bug is mentioned there quite a bit.

Share that screen...

Remote desktop has never been easier, useful for IT support for family members.
The most recent versions also include a chat function which is handy, although skype is still probably the best go to voice chat application.
Even faster is the ultra easy to use web version from logmein with an even easier to remember URL

Looking on the web it appeared it was possible to do an ‘in place’ upgrade (i.e. maintain all installed programs and files etc) with some tweaking of the settings, however this was also only possible if I installed Win7 Ultimate, which is kinda overkill for what I need.

In the end I went with Win7 Professional ‘Upgrade Edition’. I assumed it would not let me upgrade from Win7 RC but I still had the original Visa Disks that came with the box when it was new, so planned to install that 1st and then upgrade to Win7.

As fate would have it no Vista install was required (thank god!). After booting to Win7 RC I put the new Win7 Professional Upgrade disk in and was able to do a custom install on the partition where Win7 RC was currently running from. The partition was not formatted, files and documents were moved to a backup folder (c:\windows.old). All that remained for me to do was to reinstall a few apps.

The whole process took less than 30 mins to get the new Win7 up and running.

When replacing Win7 RC the ‘Upgrade’ editions work just fine for a custom install.

Just forget about Doom2

It is a dark day, after trying long and hard to fix my flatmates laptop I have to admit defeat. Trying to install an OS on a computer with no working floppy drive or CD drive is not easy. I was encouraged by the Boot to LAN - with PXE option the 3Com LAN card gave on start up. But after many hrs of trying to set my PC up as a DHCP/TFTP linux server to remote install the OS, I realised;

Budapest is a cool place
I know nothing about programming, I should have never bothered messing around with Linux, I was only guessing that the hard disk wasnt completely fried and it is probably time for a new laptop anyway. I realise that all this open source stuff must be a great idea but the amount of time and effort required, for someone who has only ever used MS-DOS and Windows, is kinda inhibitory. I was bored last week and printed off this great article that I have slowly been reading, its entertaining stuff..
“In The Beginning There Was The Command Line” read it here
originally written by Neal Stephenson but more recently updated by a code-monkey named garrett who gives its a bit of a fresh perspective..
